Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) has been awarded a $10 million (AUD) contract by Shell to build the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for its Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility, off the coast of Western Australia.

Offering an integrated service solution to Shell, the contract will combine the expertise of WGPSN's ODL business and its sister company Wood Group Integrity Management (WGIM). It will be delivered by contract teams in Perth, Australia and Aberdeen, United Kingdom.

Matt Gavin, regional director for WGPSN Australia said, ''We are thrilled to be involved in such a groundbreaking project. This is an iconic engineering development centred on the largest floating, man-made structure ever built.

''The award of this contract demonstrates our ability to draw on the strength of our teams from across the world to deliver excellence in maintenance, system build and asset integrity management. Our broad range of global expertise is what differentiates us from our competition.

''Wood Group PSN has a long partnership history with Shell globally, providing operations and technical support through integrated brownfield and engineering service contracts in other regions including the UK North Sea, Asia and the United States of America. We believe this latest contract demonstrates Shell's ongoing confidence in Wood Group PSN.''

The CMMS will be designed to optimise the maintenance, reliability and productivity of the Prelude FLNG facility and equip Shell with the data, reporting tools and strategies required to execute asset maintenance and inspection plans.

Prelude FLNG is the world's first FLNG development. It is a revolutionary technology that will allow Shell to access offshore gas fields that would otherwise be too costly or difficult to develop. The floating facility will chill natural gas produced at the field to -162° Celsius, shrinking its volume by 600 times so it can be shipped to customers in other parts of the world.
